Redmi's General Manager and Vice President of Xiaomi Group, Lu Weibing took his official page on the Chinese microblogging website Weibo to announce that, his company have successfully implemented the first ever in-display fingerprint scanner for LCD panels. Optical and ultrasonic fingerprint scanners under display have been featured in the industry by different manufacturers over the past few years but the LCD screen's complex backlight module made it nearly impossible for applying in-display fingerprint scanners, making it available only on smartphones featuring OLED panels in the past. However, Redmi by Xiaomi have come across these problems and their R&D team have developed this new technology with the innovative use of an infrared high-transmittance film material for LCD panels and is ready for mass production. Here we have attached the video shared by Weibing, showing off the working prototype (Redmi Note 8 Pro) with in-display fingerprint scanner under the handset's LCD screen.
