Today the Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer and the Finland based Windows phone maker Nokia today goes official with an agreement on sharing their patent portfolios each other.
According to the reports we read, the companies did not actually mention their terms of the new contact, but it is also said that HTC will be paying some amount to Nokia as the day's Press release come online, which involve the HTC's LTE patents and Nokia's licensing offerings. It is also said that both the companies will explore future technology collaborations opportunities. Accordingly all the pending lawsuits and patent litigation between these two multinationals have been dismissed officially by the court.
"We are very pleased to have reached a settlement and collaboration agreement with HTC, which is a long standing licensee for Nokia's standards essential patents. This agreement validates Nokia's implementation patents and enables us to focus on further licensing opportunities," said Paul Melin, Chief Intellectual Property Officer at Nokia.
"Nokia has one of the most preeminent patent portfolios in the industry. As an industry pioneer in smartphones with a strong patent portfolio, HTC is pleased to come to this agreement, which will enable us to stay focused on innovation for consumers," marked Grace Lei, General Counsel of HTC.
